What are some of the ways you make your day-to-day life more harmonious?

I try to spend as much time as possible in nature, which in Byron Bay is pretty easy. I find that sun, surf and saltwater are my biggest healers. I balance out the amount of time I spend sitting at my laptop with yoga, stretching, surfing and personal training. I also try to be kind to others and practice gratitude – I know it sounds corny but keeping a gratitude diary has been a real game-changer for my mental wellbeing.

How do you stay creative and inspired about the things you do every day?

I mix it up a lot! I work in different areas of the house (both indoors and outdoors), I break up my routine with either exercise or coffee/chai/juice with friends, and I stay connected with like-minded people who inspire and motivate me. Food is also a huge creative outlet for me, so when I feel stuck, you may just find me in the kitchen making a new flavour of raw cheesecake!

What was your biggest learning/growth experience in the past year?

Er… I’m kind of still learning it, haha!!! My big themes for this year have been “Simplicity” and “Rest.” I’ve had a few setbacks in the last couple of years with adrenal fatigue, pyrrole disorder and a pesky gene mutation called MTHFR. They hit me for 6 and sapped my energy. However, I’m a bit of a Type A personality and find it hard to stop even when I’m unwell! This year I’ve had to practice what I preach…. a lot! I now make more time to relax and recharge, but it’s still a big learning curve. Luckily my husband (and some of my Shiny Healthy You program members!) hold me accountable!

What would be your advice to people who struggle with making healthy and whole food a staple in their life?

Do one thing at a time. In my Shiny Healthy You program, for the first couple of weeks we just focus on getting breakfast right. If you totally nail breakfast, you’re already 1/3 of the way to a healthy day! The biggest reason that people don’t stick to a new regime is that they try to make all the changes at once – this leads to overwhelm and feelings of deprivation. Also – try new things and keep an open mind. Explore new exciting flavours and dishes and get creative with your food. Keep it simple, use fresh, local, seasonal produce, and you really can’t fail!

What’s the easiest thing that people can do right now to improve their cooking and eating habits?

Cook with wholefoods. Eat seasonally. Shop locally. Even if you don’t give up gluten or dairy, the food you eat will be fresher, tastier and packed with nutrients.

What are your goals for the future? What have you got planned for this year?

I am just putting the finishing touches on a new healthy dessert eBook. Then it’s onto the next eBook (can’t tell you what it is yet!). Expect more speaking gigs in the next year too, as I take my message out to a wider audience. I’m so excited for what the future holds!

Jules Galloway is a passionate naturopath, speaker, podcaster, and recipe creator.

Health wasn’t always Jules’ priority. After a challenging youth, she lived a party lifestyle for over a decade. But when it began to take its toll on her mind and body, she ditched the busy inner city life for a fresh start in the Byron Bay hinterland.

Diagnosed with pyrrole disorder, adrenal fatigue and a pesky gene mutation thrown in for good measure, Jules has learned the importance of nourishing herself – using wholefoods, supplements, happiness, gratitude and a good dose of humour.

Now with over 10 years of clinical experience, Jules has made it her mission to help women find their shine again. She’s guided hundreds of women through her eCourse, “Shiny Healthy You – Fatigued to Fabulous in 12 Weeks,” and also sees clients individually. Her podcast gets thousands of downloads every month.

When she’s not helping her tribe to become healthy, Jules can be found surfing, hanging out with her husband and their elderly rescue dogs, or walking the famous Byron Bay lighthouse track.
