Recently we decided that we needed to hear more from those inspiring women that live harmonious lives every single day.
People who inspire us and motivate us to find happier, healthier and more fulfilling lives.
We want to know how they do it and what advice they can offer us.
We recently talked to Emily Holmes from Conscious Foodie!
Emily Holmes is a Nutrition and Wellness Coach at Conscious Foodie. Emily inspires countless people to use food for abundant energy, clear skin and a peaceful mind. She is on a mission to spread the word about natural wellness and health, nutritional wholefoods, clean organic living, a sustainable future, self love, gratitude and kindness.
What are some of the ways you make your day-to-day life more harmonious?
To me, harmonious means healthy, I always thought that I was a fairly healthy person, but it wasn’t until I learnt what true health was all about that I realised how unhealthy I actually was, despite my best intentions! I’m constantly on a journey with my health. At the moment, I’m studying my Masters of Human Nutrition.
How do you stay creative and inspired about the things you do every day?
When I make time for myself each day (even if it’s only 15 minutes) to do something that I love (read a book, relax in a hot bath, climb a mountain, etc), I find that I am more inspired and energerised which allows me to stay creative.
What was your biggest learning/growth experience in the past year?
I got myself trapped in a vicious cycle of hating and hurting myself. I felt I had no control over my moods and I blamed everything and everyone but myself. I was deeply ashamed. My doctor taught me about using food as medicine. Imagine that! A GP prescribing nutrient rich food instead of a prescription. How lucky am !? This is at the top of my gratitude list every single day and now I tell anyone who will listen!
How do you stay focused on the things that are important (love, happiness) and not be distracted by all the drama that goes on around us?
I ensure I take time each day to switch off. The beach is my favourite way to switch off. There’s a reason why we feel so refreshed after spending time at the beach. It’s because the water is highly charged with negative ions. Negative ions help relieve stress, increase immunity and enhance vitality. Unfortunately our bodies aren’t absorbing enough negative ions because we’re constantly surrounding by electronic devices, pollutants and environmental toxins which emit positive ions. This is one of the reasons why fatigue, mental health issues and immune disorders are so prevalent today. It’s more important than ever that we get out in nature.
What’s the biggest thing that people can do right now to create more harmony in their life?
I find that once my clients do the inner work and learn to love and respect themselves, healthy choices come naturally. They understand that nutrition isn’t about restrictions; it’s about loving yourself enough to listen to your body and fuel it with what it needs. Most importantly, they understand that fitness isn’t punishment, it’s a blessing. Everything they do then comes from a place of love, rather than fear.
What are your goals for the future? What have you got planned for this year?
I’ve just written my ebook, ‘Transform Your Life: Transform Your Plate’. It contains over 90 wholefood recipes with a step-by-step practical guide to transform your plate (and life!). My goal is to release that this year. I’m also going to finish my Masters of Nutrition (one subject left!) and be the best Mum I can to my 3 week old daughter, whilst also continuing to work with my amazing clients doing meal plans and dietary analysis plus other nutritional consulting.
